Financial Planning
As a Certified Financial PlannerTM practitioner and fiduciary, my passion for helping others with financial planning started from a desire to better prepare professionals as well as a little push from a college t-shirt. I learned a hard lesson in my freshman year of college. This lesson became my personal crash course in financial planning. In my first days of my freshman year, my school was holding an event at the student union. Much to my amazement, I could get a free t-shirt by simply signing up for a credit card from a well-known financial institution. What college student doesn’t want a free t-shirt? Unfortunately, this free t-shirt transformed itself into a $10,000+ credit card bill that I had to pay off – quickly! This lesson, along with my love for investing, came together as a passion for helping others in navigating the complexities of financial planning.
I help to guide my clients through these complexities, create custom solutions, and simplify the process. The part I enjoy the most while consulting my clients, is that I do not work for a company that sells a particular product. Instead, my sole focus is to create solutions based on my clients’ unique needs in order to help them get the most out of their financial future.
If you don’t know how much you need to retire, how are you going to get there? I find that folks do a great job of saving for retirement in their 401(k) plans at work, but what gets lost on them is how much their future will actually cost and what the tax ramifications will be. Financial planning highlights the unique needs and goals we all have. There is no cookie-cutter approach to financial planning either, because everyone’s dreams, goals, and aspirations are unique. The layers of financial planning are complex and become exponentially so when you overlay investing, taxes, college expenses, estate planning, etc.
In my spare time, I enjoy swimming, mountain biking, and hiking with my wife, Rachel, and our two boys, Nate and Graham. I also enjoy helping in my community as a volunteer member of the Trumbull Rotary, Trumbull Youth Lacrosse, the local Father’s Club at our elementary school, and in my local neighborhood.
